Thanks for learning more about the candidates. Our community benefits from all of us knowing each other.

I'm running for re-election, and I ask for your vote for me, Kathryn Slater-Carter and Jim Harvey so we can continue working for our community.

Things you might not know about me:

• My wife and I moved to Montara in 1994 because of its beauty, and immediately fell in love with the entirety of the coastside. We enjoy raising our three children in this wonderful place. The people are as varied and interesting as the ocean, the mountain, and the many natural wonders that surround us.

• I run a software consulting company, and I work with major computer manufacturers and software companies. I also produce conferences and events to help professional programmers stay on top of the latest advances.

• I created montara.com as a place to come to disseminate as much information as possible about the burning issues in our community. The closure of Hwy 1 several years ago made me want to share pictures, reports, plans, studies, and more.

• That eventually led to the creation of Midcoast-L, a very active mailing list for the entire coastside to discuss all manner of coastside-related topics.

• I volunteered with the Sanitary District for a year, putting the district on the web and working on a committee, prior to joining the board (to fill a vacancy) in 1998. I was elected to a full term in 1999. We meet twice a month. As one of MWSD's two SAM board members, I also meet with board members from the City of Half Moon Bay and Granada Sanitary each month.

• I'm very interested in the emerging science (and awareness) of contaminants in treated wastewater (and drinking water). I'm a voracious reader, and share what I learn with my fellow board members and staff. I spoke at the WateReuse Association earlier this year about the growing awareness of the need to improve our treatment standards to keep our families and environment healthy.
